Our first event, was planned as part of the celebration leading up to Derby Goes Pink 2009. Originally organised as a fundraiser to finance the Family Tent at Derby Goes Pink, the Festival was conceived, organised the programmes were distributed within 2 weeks between June 2nd and 12th 2009. The Festival actually took place June 25th – 28th, 2009 at venues across Derby. Given the aforementioned time span it is not surprising that some people missed out on the opportunity to get involved in 2009. However, despite having very little time for promotion, the Festival was so successful that we are back making the event an annual Derbyshire-wide celebration underpinned by the following:
Formative Aims:
- Increase local awareness of the LGBT community as we work towards the elimination of homophobia, transphobia and discrimination, notably through participation in the arts, sport and heritage.
- Showcase and celebrate the LGBT community whilst at the same time having wider appeal in Derbyshire as a whole, cutting across sexual orientation, disability, ethnicity, age, culture/faith in an inclusive event;
- Provide an opportunity for the wider Derbyshire community to engage with the LGBT Community using sport, artistic expression and heritage as vehicles
- Provide an opportunity for the LGBT community and others to engage in sporting activity and heritage preservation
- Create an archive and other resources from which LGBT history can be researched, preserved and celebrated
- Create projects which will actively engage the LGBT under 25s and over 65s in art, sport and heritage.
- Create projects and activities which enhance and engender community cohesion, equality and human rights.
- Visual and performance art
- Creative activities
- Dance
- Encourage participation and involvement from all sections of the community including:
- Local residents
- Schools
- Youth groups
- Community groups
- Local agencies/ Government Departments
- Local artists and performers
